This piece was the first piece where I took coffee from paper to canvas. Unprimed canvas too. I said from the beginning that it was my hope piece. I wanted brown kids to be looked at in the same way we look at all kids- bright and bright-eyed, hopeful, lively, free. Accompanied by knowledge from our past and our people and freedom to grow and evolve. I put a lot of love into this piece and I see it in the eyes.
